Rufus Thomas “Funky Chicken” Quilt 2011

Taking inspiration from Southern folk-art,  Red Thread designed the children’s art  area for the 2011 Memphis Music and Heritage Festival. The centerpiece was a collaborative project dubbed “The Funky Chicken Quilt” in honor of festival celebrant Rufus Thomas.  People of all ages depicted their own funky chickens on quilt blocks with fabric pastels. The finished blocks were quilted together by the nationally renowned quilter Hattie Childress.  The whimsical quilt will hang in the new LeBonheur Children’s Hospital.
